County Reports of Irish Ancestry in Pa.

Keep in mind that these numbers are from what people SAID they were. Many people like to think they are Irish, when in fact they are more Scottish or English.

As you look at a map, with these figures in mind, you can see that the coal bearing areas have a preponderance of Irish and the southern Pa. counties are more devoid of them.

The one exception is the Philadelphia area, South Eastern Pa., which appears to be very much of Irish decent.

Overall Eastern Pa. has the bulk of the Irish descendants with most in the North East corner. But the Pittsburgh area and Western Pa. has a fair share also, just not quite as much as the Eastern half.
